Acaba de ser lançado no país “La Luna Grande”, um disco-livro da veterana Chavela Vargas, 93, em que ela lê 18 poesias do espanhol Federico García Lorca (1898-1936), entre elas, “Romance de la Pena Negra” e “Yo Soy la Madre de Doña Rosita”. Há, também, duas músicas inéditas em homenagem ao poeta.

Chavela é uma verdadeira instituição no México. A mais popular cantora do país tem êxito em diversas camadas sociais. Apesar de ter nascido na Costa Rica, deu nova vida à tradição ranchera mexicana. Algumas de suas canções são clássicos do cancioneiro local, como “La Llorona” e “Luz de Luna”.

Fez muito sucesso nos anos 1950. Foi amiga de ninguém menos que a pintora Frida Kahlo e do próprio García Lorca, além de ter conhecido o foragido líder comunista Leon Trotsky, em sua passagem final pelo México.

Depois de um período de baixa, foi redescoberta pelo cineasta Pedro Almodóvar, que a colocou em trilhas sonoras de seus filmes e subiu com ela aos palcos. A carreira de Chavela reengatou e ganhou projeção internacional.

“La Luna Grande” foi apresentado no Palácio de Bellas Artes da Cidade do México, por uma Chavela que já não anda e precisa ser amparada por uma cadeira de rodas. Para quem não a conhece, aqui um vídeo de Chavela cantando um de seus maiores sucessos, “Macorina”. A apresentação é de Almodóvar.
