No dia em que morreu o ditador Jorge Rafael Videla, há duas semanas, os jornais e a opinião pública não se ativeram a perguntar como teria tido seu final o responsável por uma das mais cruéis ditaduras latino-americanos. Trata-se, porém, do que aconteceu, pelo menos de acordo com as revelações trazidas hoje pelo jornal “Perfil”, por meio da coluna do jornalista Nelson Castro. Também médico, ele analisou depoimento de colegas de cárcere e os boletins oficiais sobre a morte do militar.

Consta que Videla havia caído no banheiro, enquanto tomava uma ducha, cinco dias antes. Em consequência da queda, pode ter quebrado alguns ossos, pois os testemunhos apontam que o ex-ditador começou a reclamar muito de dores pelo corpo, sem nunca ser atendido. O militar também sofria câncer de próstata, para o qual também não recebia tratamentos. No dia 13, três dias após a queda, estava previsto que se apresentasse a depor num tribunal que o tem como réu por crimes contra a humanidade. Apesar de seu estado de saúde, não houve avaliação médica para saber se ele poderia mesmo ser transportado ao tribunal. Queixando-se muito, mas sem ser ouvido, Videla foi levado ao local. Poucos dias depois, foi encontrado morto em seu quarto.

Castro aponta que a prisão onde se encontrava poderia enfrentar um processo por abandono, tanto com relação ao acidente, como ao fato de não haver recebido atenção, e de ter morrido sozinho. sem a presença de um médico ou enfermeiro a seu lado. O jornalista chama a atenção para o fato de seu direito humano ter sido violado. “Nas ditaduras, a vida não vale nada; nas democracias, ao contrário, ela é sagrada.”

Enquanto isso, o corpo de Videla teve de ser enterrado em local desconhecido por seus familiares, pois a população da cidade de Mercedes, de onde ele vinha, realizou intensas manifestações para que não fosse enterrado ali.

O caminho para a conciliação de um país certamente passa pela Justiça e pelo cumprimento de penas, em especial para um homem que transgrediu a lei, o respeito a vida, a moral, e causou tanta morte e derramamento de sangue. Passa, porém, também, pelo respeito à vida humana e pela não disseminação da vingança. A se confirmarem as acusações de Nelson Castro, a Argentina, que tanto avançou nos direitos humanos, terá cometido um crime justamente nessa área, ao abandonar à morte um ser humano, ainda que fosse um dos piores tipos de seres humanos que o país produziu.
