Garzón e o papa

O juiz espanhol Baltasar Garzón pediu hoje ao papa Francisco que abra os arquivos do Vaticano relativos à ditadura argentina (1976-1983) para ajudar a esclarecer os crimes cometidos pelo Estado durante o período. Garzón participou de uma cerimônia em homenagem aos desaparecidos latino-americanos durante os anos de chumbo.

“Certamente há muita coisa em poder do Vaticano. O papa antes de tudo é um chefe de Estado e como chefe de Estado tem possibilidade de tomar esse tipo de iniciativa. Não há necessidade de que Cristina peça, ou que ninguém o peça, ele pode fazê-lo sozinho.”

Garzón também disse que considerava inadequada a entrevista realizada pela revista “Cambio 16” ao ex-ditador Jorge Videla. A revista publicou, na semana passada, uma declaração de Videla de que considerava que era necessário “pegar em armas” novamente. O próprio Videla, depois, durante uma sessão de um julgamento, desmentiu o dito. “Esse senhor não tem de estar declarando nada e os meios não deveriam dar eco a esse tipo de declaração”, disse Garzón.

O juiz espanhol diz que se o papa puder fazer algo para que a discussão da soberania das ilhas Malvinas seja discutida, “será muito benvindo”.

Garzón, que está vivendo parte de seu tempo na Argentina, tem atuado junto à Secretaria de Direitos Humanos e é um apoiador de Cristina Kirchner _com quem algumas revistas de fofoca afirma que mantém um romance (nenhum dos dois comenta o fato). No ano passado, o juiz espanhol foi inabilitado pela Justiça de seu país para seguir atuando, depois que veio à tona que usara métodos ilegais de escuta em um caso sobre corrupção.
