Quem estiver em Buenos Aires no próximo fim de semana não deve perder os últimos dias da exposição do fotógrafo colombiano Oscar Muñoz, no Museo de Arte Latinoamericana (Malba). Trata-se uma retrospectiva dos melhores trabalhos do artista desde o princípio de sua atuação, nos anos 90.

Muñoz, 61, começou a trabalhar nos anos 70 e integrou um importante movimento artístico de sua cidade-natal, Cali. Um dos epicentros do narcotráfico colombiano e, em seu tempo, uma das cidades mais violentas da América do Sul, Cali também é uma cidade fervilhante do ponto de vista cultural, com intensas trocas entre diversas vertentes artísticas e centro nevrálgico de comunicação entre distintas áreas da Colômbia. Entre seus nomes de destaque, estão ainda o escritor Andrés Caicedo e os cineastas Luis Ospina e Carlos Mayolo.

A mostra que se pode ver no Malba chama-se “Protografias” e reúne os trabalhos de Muñoz que se relacionam com o momento anterior à solidificação de uma imagem numa plataforma. O instante antes da constituição de uma fotografia. E Muñoz busca essa passagem efêmera e cheia de significados de diversas formas.

A mais rústica delas são os desenhos a carvão realizados a partir de fotos tiradas por ele mesmo. São imagens escuras em que o rosto humano é apenas sugerido e em que tudo ainda carece de uma forma final. “Tiznados” (1990-1991) é uma reconstrução em gesso e carvão de imagens de cadáveres publicadas em jornais.

Na entrada da mostra, está um de seus trabalhos mais famosos, “Ambulatório” (1994-1995), uma grande aerofotografia da cidade de Cali que se estende no chão, debaixo de um vidro. Enquanto caminha, o visitante pode ver os fragmentos da imagem serem remontados e quebrados novamente. Aqui, o artista evoca a violência do narcotráfico que tanto impactou sua cidade.

Logo vêm as obras que trazem rostos humanos anônimos em função de uma mensagem. Em “Através del Cristal” (2009), Muñoz reuniu fotos de arquivos pessoais de famílias colombianas e as registrou em vídeo. O trabalho mais interessante, porém, é o “Archivo Porcontacto” (2004-2008), em que o artista reuniu imagens guardadas por fotógrafos ambulantes. Antes abundantes nos parques de Cali, esses artistas de rua tiravam fotos e depois tentavam vender aos retratados, as que sobravam iam para seus arquivos pessoais. Muñoz comprou uma imensa quantidade deles e realizou uma intervenção, com água, pela primeira vez na Puente Ortiz, em Cali.

A dissolução das imagens ou o estado em que estão prestes a se consolidar é sua obsessão. Suas séries mais conhecidas são “Cortinas de Baño” (1985-1989), em que ele transporta fotos de corpos a cortinas molhadas, e “Narcisos” (1990), em que a imagem de seu próprio rostro desintegra-se na água.

No vídeo abaixo, Oscar Muñoz explica um pouco de sua arte, tão poética como política. Em suas obras, um pouco da história da Colômbia nas últimas décadas e uma reflexão sobre a efemeridade dos suportes tradicionais da arte, assim como o papel da fotografia como registro de uma época.
