Os “kelpers” preparam sua festa

Às vésperas do referendo em que decidirão se querem ou não seguir fazendo parte do Reino Unido, os malvinenses começam a viver o clima da votação dos próximos dias 10 e 11 de março. Nesta semana foi lançada uma coleção de selos comemorativos, nos quais diferentes mãos são mostradas inserindo o voto numa urna que tem a imagem do mapa do disputado arquipélago.

As ilhas são reivindicadas históricamente pela Argentina, desde que os ingleses expulsaram o grupo de colonos que as habitavam em 1833. Em 1982, uma cruel guerra praticamente destruiu o sonho argentino de reavê-las. A vitória britânica foi avassaladora e vergonhosa para a ditadura militar que controlava a Argentina.

Em geral muito silenciosos com relação a seus desejos, os “kelpers” agora levantaram a voz e estão deixando muito claro que irão às urnas com vontade de declararem-se 100% britânicos. Além do selo e das festas programadas, os malvinenses também estão afinando o sentido de humor. Em sua última edição, por exemplo, o jornal “Penguin News” publicou uma entrevista imaginária com o chanceler Hector Timerman. Principal voz do governo kirchnerista na campanha argentina pelo retorno das ilhas a seu poder, Timerman é bastante satirizado pelos “kelpers”. É exatamente o que acontece na “entrevista”, traduzida abaixo.

P – Quais são suas três possesões mais apreciadas?

Timerman – Depois das Ilhas Malvinas, minha integridade e minha honestidade (isso dá três coisas?).

P – Qual foi o melhor conselho que já lhe deram?

P – A quem nomearia como governador das ilhas Malvinas?

Timerman – Vocês já têm um governador: se chama Fabiana Ríos (governadora da Terra do Fogo) e ela vive na sua capital: Ushuaia.

P – Que característica sua surpreenderia as pessoas?

Timerman – Que eu tenho um cérebro próprio e não sou um títere de Cristina.

P – Qual foi o melhor livro ou filme que leu ou viu recentemente?

Timerman – “Grandes Mentiras para Meninos Pequenos”, de Andy Riley (um livro sobre história argentina).

P – Qual é a recordação mais feliz de sua infância?

Timerman – Quando podia olhar meu pai nos olhos sem sentir-me envergonhado (Jacobo Timerman foi um autor, jornalista e editor argentino perseguido e honrado por afrontar as atrocidades da guerra suja durante o regime militar argentino).

P – Qual é sua especialidade?

Timerman – Reescrever a história argentina para mostrar populações anteriores e campanhas genocidas realizadas contra elas. Mas colocando especial ênfase em como os pérfidos britânicos fizeram em 1833 uma limpeza étnica das Ilhas Malvinas para seus propósitos colonialistas e desafiaram nossas tentativas pacíficas de solucionar a disputa pela soberania em 1982.

I wanted to give the hoodies a couture quality, so they are hand embroidered with metallic leaves and hand beaded and embellished. Possibly the cropped hoodie – this is the first piece I designed and worked on, and where the rest of the collection really stemmed from. Everything was done by hand, so it took forever. I think that's the nature of the industry anyway, and when you are so engrossed in your work you want to put that time and effort in. Tell me what was going through your mind when your name was announced and you were called up on stage? It was incredibly surreal. I have a vague recollection of my course mates all jumping up and screaming, but apart from that it was all a bit of a blur! I was completed stunned – I was so chuffed just to be able to show my collection at GFW, so to win both the Womenswear Award and the Gold Award was incredible. What do you plan to do with your £20,000 prize money? I think it's just the most amazing support to enter the industry with. It means that whatever opportunities come my way, I am now able to pursue which is just invaluable for a graduate. Who would you like to see wearing your collection?Somebody youthful who encompasses both the strong, powerful and urban qualities of the sportswear, and the ethereal, vulnerable element of the collection.
