Equador hoje, Argentina amanhã?

O Equador e a Argentina, apesar do passado colonial espanhol comum, têm tradição e cultura históricas peculiares. A Argentina foi pólo de um vice-reinado e teve forte influência imigrante europeia em torno de seu principal porto. O Equador, por sua vez, sempre dependeu dos avanços que vinham de centros como Caracas e Bogotá. Sua população é de raiz essencialmente indígena, pouco mesclada com o europeu. Um é austral, o outro, andino. A lista podia estender-se por muitos parágrafos. Mas o que queria destacar aqui é que, no que diz respeito a lideranças autoritárias, que cada vez mais exercem seu poder sobre a imprensa, os dois países possuem fortes semelhanças.

Nesses dias, aqui em Quito, tenho tido uma espécie de sentimento antecipatório com relação à Argentina. Abro os jornais, vejo a TV e digo para mim mesma: se a Cristina Kirchner continuar em sua campanha contra a imprensa independente, o futuro será isso aqui. Por “isso aqui”, entenda-se: jornais de oposição que não conseguem fazer oposição por temerem pressões, autocensura, e uma rede imensa de meios que não param de elogiar e exaltar o presidente Rafael Correa. Cristina estatizou o papel-jornal, aprovou uma lei para democratizar os meios de comunicação para lá de polêmica e usa verba oficial para favorecer meios aliados. Correa também se apoia no uso selecionado de dinheiro público para veículos alinhados, mas foi muito além, montou um aparato de comunicação gigantesco, com expropriações de emissoras de TV e condenações contra jornalistas.

Hoje, caminhando pelo centro histórico de Quito, comprei um jornal popular super-governista que, em sua capa do caderno de Esportes trazia nada menos que… uma entrevista com Correa. A foto, essa aí de cima, mostrava o presidente bastante soltinho cabeceando uma bola. Nas imagens internas, super-sorridente e usando a camiseta verde que identifica a sua coalizão, a Aliança PAIS.

O repórter que assina a matéria é uma vergonha para a profissão de um modo geral. Sua abertura diz: “Rafael Correa se relaxa para a entrevista, que na verdade se converte em uma amena conversa. Se trata de um esportista nato, bom conversador, com sentido de humor, direto, franco, sem poses, e uma linguagem acessível às pessoas, o seu povo, que serve desde sua infância como escoteiro”. As perguntas levantam a bola do presidente o tempo todo, como conquistava as garotas na escola, que memória tem para recordar-se de canções, seus livros, time de futebol e filmes preferidos.

Correa diz que vai radicalizar a campanha contra a imprensa, se re-reeleito no próximo domingo. Entre outras coisas, há uma lei de imprensa muito mais radical que a argentina na pauta de suas prioridades. Se Cristina está mesmo se inspirando nas avançadas do colega equatoriano, daqui a pouco a veremos dando dicas de moda no suplemento feminino do “Tiempo Argentino” ou algum outro meio governista. A América Latina não precisava desse retrocesso.
