Sandri está desde os anos 70 longe da Argentina, tendo atuado junto ao poderoso cardeal Angelo Sodano, no Vaticano. Também foi representante papal na Venezuela, no México e em Madagascar. Hoje está em Roma, à frente das Igrejas Orientais.  Ontem, as listas de “papáveis” internacionais o apontavam com grande destaque.
