O dilema de Mujica
Impossível não ouvir falar de José “Pepe” Mujica praticamente todo dia, durante uma breve estada no Uruguai. Foi o que aconteceu comigo, mais uma vez, na semana que acabo de passar por lá. O uruguaio médio em geral é benevolente com seu presidente, os mais entusiastas aderem à moda mundial de elogiar seu desprendimento material, os mais críticos expõem suas desavenças, mas reconhecem seu papel histórico e sua simpatia.
Só nesses primeiros dias do ano, Mujica já gerou várias notícias. Primeiro, compareceu à não-posse de Hugo Chávez, deu conselhos aos venezuelanos e irritou a oposição. Para chegar a Caracas, voou em classe econômica, e foi admoestado por uma passageira anti-chavista. Depois, foi flagrado por um turista-fã descansando numa “parrilla” (churrascaria) da praia em Carmelo, no litoral uruguaio, usando boné e de sorriso aberto, acompanhado da mulher, Lucía Topolansky. Ainda, foi perfilado pelo “New York Times” em matéria com destaque na capa, em que aparecia como o presidente mais modesto da América Latina.
O fato é que Mujica virou um hit. A foto acima foi furor nas redes sociais, assim como fazem muito sucesso as reportagens que, como a do NYT, elogiam seu modo de vida austero. Mujica se recusou a viver no palácio presidencial, doa a maior parte do salário, tem uma cadela de três patas, um trator e um fusca 1987. Toma uns traguinhos como qualquer trabalhador e se veste de modo informal. Não há perfil recente do presidente uruguaio que não ressalte essas características.
Porém, esse personagem está valendo uma folclorização de sua imagem. Já gera um certo cansaço ver essas características elevadas ao máximo do padrão de comportamento ético a todo momento. O que antes só gerava simpatia, agora vai parecendo cada vez mais uma espécie de estratégia de marketing.
Entre os uruguaios, já há uma boa parte que cobra o presidente mais por suas ações do que por ser um modelo de vida. A oposição, por sua vez, pede dele mais presença nas decisões sobre questões básicas, como saúde e educação, e que deixe de prestar tanta atenção a questões para eles menos essenciais, como a estatização da produção da maconha, o casamento gay e o aborto _também grandes êxitos nas redes sociais.
Mujica de longe ganha na comparação com a postura pública de vários líderes latino-americanos. Diante de seu próprio povo, porém, chegou a um ponto perigoso em que pode começar a perder legitimidade por entrar demais num personagem. Nada como olhar para as pessoas reais de seu país agora e não se importar pela quantidade de “likes” que as fotos de suas sorridentes férias possam ter.
