Millás, o cronista dos duplos

Uma das estrelas discretas desta 26a edição da Feira Internacional de Literatura de Guadalajara é o irônico e mordaz escritor e jornalista espanhol Juan José Millás, 66. As mesas de que participa lotam e deixam espectadores do lado de fora, exigindo telão para acompanhar suas tiradas sarcásticas. Em debate na tarde de ontem, ao lado do argentino Eduardo Berti, do mexicano David Toscana e dos brasileiros Ana Maria Machado e Milton Hatoum, Millás discutiu o ofício de escritor falando de suas influências e de seu dia-a-dia. Criticou o exibicionismo de colegas mais conhecidos e centrou fogo em Phillip Roth, que recentemente anunciou sua aposentadoria: “Nunca vi alguém chamar a imprensa pra anunciar que vai parar de escrever. A mim, que me importa?”.

Na tarde de domingo, conversei longamente com Millás no stand de sua editora, a Planeta. Falamos de seus livros lançados aqui, o romance “Lo que Sé de Hombrecillos” e a coletânea de artigos para jornal “Vidas al Límite”. Nascido em Valência, Millás transita entre a prosa e a crônica desde o princípio de sua carreira: “não vejo diferença, ambas são um delírio, uma sai de um fato do cotidiano, outra de uma ocorrência dentro de sua cabeça, da imaginação”. Entre os leitores de jornais internacionais, Millás é conhecido por seus textos que comentam fotos da semana e abrem a revista do “El País”. O rei e a rainha, atores, atrizes, jogadores de futebol e políticos são analisados ali a partir de pequenos detalhes, a mão no bolso, o sorriso, um gesto, uma expressão de alegria ou de dor. Millás também assina crônicas políticas e sociais nesse jornal.

Entre seus livros mais famosos está “El Mundo”, que ganhou o prêmio Planeta de 2007 e conta sua infância numa família de muitos irmãos e poucos recursos, em Valência e em Madri. “Escrever sobre o seu passado é como escrever sobre o seu duplo. Esse é um mito que me interessa bastante e é o centro da literatura, fazer-se passar por outro, ainda que o outro seja você mesmo”, disse.

“Vidas al Límite” reúne algumas de suas reportagens. Em “Biografia de uma Mosca”, ele relata 30 dias de acompanhamento da vida deste inseto. “É no cotidiano que estão os grandes mistérios”. Em “Um Dia com Paco”, faz um perfil de um garoto com Síndrome de Down em Barcelona. Seus retratos humanos não são nada apelativos e expõem características e dramas universais.

Já “Lo que Sé de Hombrecillos” conta a história de um homem que se vê cercado de pequenas criaturas humanas em seu dia a dia, numa narrativa surrealista e angustiante. “De novo está a questão do duplo, um dos homenzinhos é ele mesmo. Trata-se de uma concretização de uma obsessão humana, em forma de delírio”, conta.

Millás já foi traduzido no Brasil, ainda que com atraso e em pouco volume. São encontrados nas livrarias brasileiras “O Mundo” (Planeta) e “Contos de Adúlteros Desorientados” (Ediouro). Da faceta cronista e jornalista, não há nada em catálogo.
