A 26a Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara está fazendo um esforço enorme para incluir o Brasil na festa. O empreendimento é admirável, mas a distância cultural entre nosso país e o mundo de língua hispânica ainda é gigantesco e, pelo menos à primeira vista, intransponível. Por um lado, basta olhar a linha de frente dos destaques do evento para se dar conta de que quase nenhum autor ou título está publicado no Brasil. Escritores  como Jorge Volpi, Juan Villoro, Elena Poniatowska praticamente não estão publicados no Brasil, e seus nomes, apesar da envergadora e da projeção na Europa e nos EUA, parecem pouco ou nada significarem para editores brasileiros.

Por outro lado, o mundo hispano-americano tampouco tem muita ideia do que se passa no Brasil. Pior, algumas gafes feias são cometidas. Ontem, numa das mesas do evento, o mexicano David Toscana fez a seguinte observação ao amazonense Milton Hatoum: “deve ser difícil ser escritor no Brasil com todas essas praias e ‘muchachas’ que estão ali te distraindo, não?”. Detalhe, Toscana já esteve no Brasil, e participou de uma edição da Flip.

Quatro escritores brasileiros se reuniram ontem num debate dentro do evento. Por quase duas horas, Marçal Aquino, Cíntia Moscovitch, Luis Ruffato e Paula Parisot responderam a perguntas de um mediador e do público. As perguntas, apesar de bem-intencionadas, não fizeram a discussão levantar. “Como seria para vocês viver numa cidade diferente, dentro do Brasil, é possível?”, “Como lidar com temas sobre o corpo num país que cultua tanto a beleza?”, “Como é possível fazer literatura numa cidade tão caótica e violenta como São Paulo?”, “Quem são seus escritores favoritos?”.

O quarteto, porém, ganhou o público. Com respostas claras e bem-humoradas, falaram da impossibilidade de viver da literatura no Brasil, do envolvimento com a profissão, das peculiaridades das cidades de onde vêm, São Paulo, Cataguazes e Porto Alegre e de autores brasileiros. Marçal Aquino contou que vive do relato das ruas no Brasil, que gosta do caos e de conversar com quem encontra, que daí surge sua literatura. E que deve muito a Graciliano Ramos e que prefere viver de roteiros e outros trabalhos, para dedicar à literatura o tempo livre. Moscovitch fez o público rir com suas anedotas sobre vida pessoal e o aspecto humorístico de sua literatura. Paula Parisot, distante aqui da polêmica sobre sua relação com Rubem Fonseca, fez questão de lembrar o mestre e contou que se não fosse por ele se aborreceria tremendamente com o fato de ser obrigada a dormir numa biblioteca quando tinha 12 anos.

Já Ruffato falou da seriedade com que encara a literatura e de como é trabalhar em São Paulo. Explicou a todos que apesar do caos é possível ter uma vida “humana” na metrópole, conhecendo os taxistas e o sujeito da padaria. E ilustrou a cidade com a imagem que viu outro dia: um mendigo remexendo o lixo atrás de comida, com uma camiseta com os dizeres: “gente é pra brilhar”. O público o olhava meio embasbacado. Pelo que contaram os escritores ao público de Guadalajara, o Brasil é diverso e alegre, mas definitivamente, não para principiantes.
