Gardel e o golpe do “conto do tio”

Cada revelação que se faz sobre o passado do mais famoso cantor de tangos argentino, Carlos Gardel, é motivo de intensas discussões e revisões. Só a polêmica sobre se nasceu mesmo em Tacuarembó, no Uruguai, ou em Toulouse, na França, já rendeu livros, longos ensaios, debates acalorados e ainda pode ser tema de longas noites de argumentação entre amigos em mesas de bares e restaurantes.

A mais nova polêmica foi revelada nesta semana com uma matéria do jornal “Pagina12”, que adiantou as revelações de um duo de pesquisadores forenses que trabalha com documentos e evidências deixadas por Gardel há nada menos que 14 anos. Segundo Raul Torre e Juan José Fenoglio, dois peritos em criminalística, Gardel fez de tudo para esconder seu passado pré-fama. Isso porque foi, nada menos, que um golpista que aplicou golpes leves, mais ou menos como os dois vilões do filme “Nove Rainhas”.

Torre e Fenoglio compararam as impressões digitais que Gardel deixou em 1923 no consulado uruguaio em Buenos Aires, em 1923, quando foi renovar seu passaporte, com fichas criminais da época. Acabaram chegando à conclusão de que elas coincidem perfeitamente com as de um estafador que, em 1915, aplicava nos bares da capital argentina o chamado “cuento del tío”.

O golpe era assim. O estafador entrava no bar ou restaurante, e começava a contar a história de que tinha ganho uma herança de um tio distante, numa província. Dizia que não tinha como pagar a passagem para ir buscá-la e prometia uma recompensa a quem o ajudasse. Inevitavelmente, alguém se prontificava, comovido com o conto. O golpista deixava o local com a grana e simplesmente desaparecia.

A tese de que Gardel pudesse ter antecedentes criminais não é nova. É sabido, por exemplo, que, em 1922, a seu pedido, o então presidente da Argentina, Marcelo T. de Alvear, tinha ordenado que a polícia destruísse documentos com antecedentes penais do cantor. Havia uma teoria que dizia, inclusive, que ele teria ficado preso na longínqua e gélida prisão de Ushuaia. Até hoje, porém, provas desse passado negro não haviam sido apresentadas.

Agora, Torre e Fenoglio querem realizar testes de DNA, a partir dos restos mortais de Gardel que estão no cemitério da Chacarita, em Buenos Aires. A partir disso, seria possível realizar mais comparações com evidências de outros crimes da época. A medida já levantou polêmica, pois defensores do cantor não querem que esse passado seja reavivado.

O episódio é mais uma amostra de como seguem vivos os mitos na Argentina. Em poucos meses, tivemos a celeuma sobre a amizade de Borges e Bioy Casares, levantada pela viúva Maria Kodama, e a discussão sobre a nota de 100 pesos com o rosto de Eva Perón. Gardel, apesar de ser uma figura de mais consenso nacional, não está livre de ver sua trajetória colocada em discussão.
