Uma das tantas qualidades do cinema argentino é não perder o bom nível de seus roteiros e atuações quando se trata de um filme mais comercial e voltado ao grande público. Nisso, também, difere muito do cinema brasileiro, onde boa bilheteria é sinônimo apenas de comédia vulgar e tonta.

“Atraco!”, co-produção argentino-espanhola exibida no Festival de San Sebastian e em cartaz em Buenos Aires, não tem grandes pretensões artísticas para além de entreter. Porém, não abre mão de uma caracterização de época refinada, boas interpretações cômicas e dramáticas, roteiro bem construído e sofisticado.

O filme conta a história de dois argentinos que viajam à Espanha em 1956 para cumprir uma estranha missão. Merello (Guillermo Francella) e Miguel (Nicolás Cabré) devem recuperar as jóias de Evita que foram colocadas em penhora para pagar os custos da estadia do general Perón no exílio naquele país. As jóias correm risco de ir parar no pescoço da mulher do generalíssimo Franco, e os patriotas argentinos precisam evitar isso nem que seja entregando a própria vida.

Merello é um ex-guarda-costas de Evita, que lembra com adoração sua patroa, morta quatro anos antes. Miguel, um jovem ator que sonha em encarnar Charlie Chaplin e é ingênuo para as coisas do mundo violento que há por trás da política naqueles tempos. Depois de um momento de choque de personalidades, os dois se unem como pai e filho.

A trama se desenvolve a partir do momento em que o assalto, que era para ser uma armação, vira uma coisa séria e sai do controle. Merello é atingido por um tiro disparado por uma funcionária da loja, e ambos vão para a prisão. A polícia vai desmontando a operação, até que toca em pessoas poderosas e a vínculos com a instalação de Perón no país. É obrigada a parar.

Nesse pastiche de filme noir, além da dupla principal, brilham também outras figuras, como a enfermeira do hospital por quem Miguel se apaixona e é carregada para dentro da trama, e o jovem policial ambicioso que atua com um velho companheiro, já meio cego, mas intuitivo e brilhante.

O filme é baseado num caso real ocorrido naquela época em uma joalheria da Gran Via madrilenha. Trata, ainda de pintar um retrato da Espanha dos anos 50, já recuperada dos horrores da Guerra Civil e com suas classes altas ostentando luxo e almejando estar na moda como nos EUA, e a Argentina dos difíceis anos em que a repressão militar perseguiu os militantes peronistas, levando muitos ao exílio.
