Casa de Borges, casa de Tomás Eloy

A biblioteca Miguel Cané foi o primeiro emprego do escritor Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986). Localizada no bairro de Boedo, em Buenos Aires, é um bonito edifício de dois andares. No segundo, ao fundo, ainda se conserva o escritório em que o autor de “O Aleph” trabalhou. Possui alguns livros de época, a escrivaninha e alguns objetos que pertenceram a ele.

O local agora é a sede da Fundação Tomás Eloy Martínez, dedicada ao autor de “Santa Evita”, “O Romance de Perón” e outros. Martínez (1934-2010) foi um dos mais importantes nomes das letras argentinas depois da geração Borges/Cortázar. Jornalista, ensaísta e romancista, suas obras falam de um tempo e de um ambiente específicos e tensos da Argentina, a fase peronista e a posterior ditadura dos anos 70.

Hoje, os filhos de Tomás Eloy mantêm viva a obra do pai. O simpático e sorridente Ezequiel é quem comanda as operações na Fundação e mostra o local aos visitantes. No segundo andar do prédio está guardada parte da biblioteca do escritor. Muitos livros de literatura latino-americana, história da Argentina, clássicos da literatura mundial, uma edição da Britannica. Entre os livros de autores brasileiros, encontram-se um de contos de Machado de Assis e “Os Sertões”, de Euclydes da Cunha.

A Fundação guarda as metódicas planilhas que o autor fazia para controlar o próprio trabalho. Cada manuscrito traz, antes da folha de rosto, um gráfico em que Tomás Eloy anotava como era sua produção diária. Possuía, ainda, um quadro tipo escolar em que ia pontuando a evolução dos romances. Na parte de baixo, deixava como referência os números de outras obras. “Santa Evita” foram “x” palavras em “x” dias, “O Cantor de Tango”, “y” em “y” dias. E assim por diante.

Ezequiel conta que há uma obra inédita do autor. Um romance recém-terminado, mas que foi só parcialmente revisado. Chama-se “El Olimpo”, e conta a história de um grupo de deuses gregos que, cansados de viver, querem aprender a morrer. Para isso, buscam passagens da história da humanidade em que morreu muita gente, para usar como inspiração. Vão parar na Alemanha nazista e, depois, na Argentina da ditadura (1976-1983). Não por acaso, o regime mantinha um centro clandestino de detenção e tortura que se chamava Garage Olimpo (retratado em excelente filme de Marco Becchis). Ali, entendem o que é a morte.

Os filhos estudam lançar o livro não-acabado, como um “work in progress”, mas não por enquanto. Segundo Ezequiel, a data mais provável seria a da grande homenagem que preparam para quando seu pai completaria 80 anos. Ou seja, em 2014.

O irmão mais novo, Blas, está em outro projeto que envolve o pai. Participou da produção de uma série que está indo ao ar pelo canal Encuentro, “La Argentina Segun Perón”, baseada no áudio das entrevistas que Tomás Eloy fez com o general Juan Domingo Perón (1895-1974) quando este se encontrava exilado na Espanha. As fitas serão também fonte para um filme que o jovem diretor está rodando, e que terá como locações lugares importantes na vida e na obra do escritor.

Pelo menos se depender dos filhos de Tomás Eloy, o velho casarão de Boedo continuará sendo uma casa em que se respira história e literatura, e que pode ser visitada por todos.
