O vice-presidente argentino, Amado Boudou, fez hoje um monólogo no Senado. Falou por 45 minutos. Depois, levantou-se e foi embora. Não respondeu perguntas dos jornalistas, a quem, ironicamente, tinha mandado chamar para uma “conferencia de prensa”, sobre acusações de tráfico de influências.

Na Argentina, a expressão é usada para designar a nossa “coletiva de imprensa”, reunião para a qual profissionais de comunicação são convocados e podem interagir, indagar e questionar o entrevistado. O governo kirchnerista, porém, está mudando essa instituição. Quando fala em “conferência de prensa”, não significa que aceitará conversar com os jornalistas. Pelo contrário. Nelas, são simplesmente proibidas as perguntas.

Só neste ano, foram várias as ocasiões em que autoridades públicas deram declarações sobre escândalos, tragédias ou aspectos do governo, mas sem permitir indagações. O ex-ministro de Transporte, Juan Carlos Schiavi, após o desastre de trem no Once que matou 51 pessoas, disse que não queria “entrar num jogo de perguntas e respostas” porque o dia era muito dramático. Acusada de usar um programa de computador ilegal para espionar manifestantes, a secretária de Segurança, Nilda Garré, também armou seu monólogo e barrou questões.

Indignados, jornalistas reclamam em artigos, redes sociais e na TV. Há pouco, enviaram uma carta ao chefe de Gabinete, Juan Manuel Abal Medina, expondo o incômodo. Estava assinada por 120 jornalistas, entre eles colunistas, chefes de redação, apresentadores e repórteres.

A resposta de Abal Medina foi minimizar o valor das coletivas: “Alguns jornalistas endeusam uma metodologia simplesmente para incomodar.” E acrescentou que os funcionários do governo não tinham tempo para isso, afinal, estavam “trabalhando todos os dias para melhorar a vida dos argentinos”.

Não se pode dizer que Abal Medina é um ignorante no assunto. Antes de ser chefe de gabinete, era justamente o Secretário de Comunicação Pública do governo. Mas, tanto nesse cargo como no atual, mal abriu a boca. Eu mesma não sei direito como é sua voz.

Tanto ele como o restante da cúpula kirchnerista parecem não saber para que serve o jornalismo numa sociedade democrática. “Incomodar”, como Abal Medina se refere às perguntas de jornalistas, é dever desse ofício. Enquanto isso, o dever dele, como representante de um governo eleito pelo voto popular, é ser transparente.
