Desde que cheguei à Argentina, tentei comprar livros pela Amazon duas vezes. Na primeira, o tempo estimado para a chegada do produto me fazia perder o prazo para o qual eu precisaria dele. Desisti. Na segunda, mesmo com o atraso anunciado, resolvi encarar o desafio. Queria mesmo o livro.

A promessa inicial era de que chegaria em duas semanas. O tempo passou, e nada. Resolvi “rastrear” a compra. O status apresentado indicava que o livro já chegara na Argentina e estava passando pelo processo de liberação. Dias depois, voltei ao site, e a informação era a mesma. Reclamei. E a resposta, educada, da Amazon era que “na Argentina sempre há problemas nessa fase”. Mais alguns dias, nova reclamação. E a Amazon, mantendo a boa postura, disse que devolveria meu dinheiro, na íntegra, por conta dos transtornos. De fato e o fizeram, junto a um pedido de desculpas, e o livro, que acabou vindo de graça, mas tarde, chegou em minha casa mais de um mês depois do meu pedido original.

A partir desse episódio, comecei a importar meus livros pelo Kindle ou a comprá-los quando saio da Argentina. Se já era difícil o processo antes, imagino o pesadelo que será agora que o governo anunciou mais uma trava protecionista, desta vez atingindo os livros importados.

A partir desta semana, todo livro importado que chegar à Argentina passará por uma avaliação para descobrir o quanto de chumbo há na tinta utilizada para sua composição e se esse valor excede o permitido pelo órgão que regula a entrada de produtos importados, a Secretaria de Comércio Interior, comandada pelo xerife Guillermo Moreno.

A medida impõe um calvário ao pobre leitor, que além da demora não poderá receber o livro em sua casa, tendo de se deslocar até o aeroporto internacional onde a obra chegou e pedir que seu trâmite se complete. Moreno está preocupado com a quantidade de livros importados que entram na Argentina, cerca de 80%. Sua obsessão é evitar a saída de dólares e equilibrar uma balança comercial deficitária.

Parece uma piada, mas não é. A Argentina, país latino-americano que tem excelentes índices de escolaridade, uma cultura refinada, uma literatura das mais ricas do continente e, em geral, um cidadão médio muito bem formado, está diante de uma lei medieval que aponta para o retrocesso nessa área.

I mean, I dont want to tell you how to run your blog, but what if you added something to maybe get peoples attention?
