O escritor peruano Mario Vargas Llosa desembarcou no Chile para uma homenagem ao amigo e também autor Jorge Edwards e deu uma entrevista ao jornal “La Tercera”, em que analisou o governo de Sebastián Piñera e a situação política da América Latina.

A dois anos do fim do seu mandato, o líder chileno tem enfrentado protestos de estudantes secundaristas e de habitantes das zonas extremas do país, que reclamam do isolamento econômico, do alto custo de vida e da falta de boas universidades regionais.

Vargas Llosa, que apoiou o conservador Piñera na campanha presidencial, disse que está decepcionado por sua política educacional, que parecia ser o carro-chefe de sua administração, no começo. Mas que, comparando com outros países da América Latina, os problemas do Chile são hoje de Primeiro Mundo.

O peruano também elogiou o ex-radical de esquerda Ollanta Humala, presidente a quem apoiou nas últimas eleições em seu país, em que derrotou Keiko Fujimori, filha do ditador Alberto Fujimori. “Ele tem respeitado as instituições democráticas e as políticas de mercado”. Vargas Llosa não comentou a crise que atingiu o alto escalão de seu governo, há alguns meses.

Sobre a Argentina, o autor de “Lituma nos Andes” brincou: “É preciso bruxos e xamãs para entender o que acontece ali.” E acrescentou: “Por que o país mais culto da América Latina, que teve uma tradição tão notável não só de desenvolvimento econômico, mas também cultural, pôde cair no que caiu? Hoje a Argentina é o peronismo. Direita, centro, esquerda… tudo é peronismo.”

O escritor está lançando em abril na Espanha e nos países hispano-americanos um ensaio, “La Civilización del Espetáculo”, sobre a banalização da cultura no século 21, e prepara um novo romance, “El Héroe Discreto”. A novela se passa em Piura, cidade peruana onde o escritor, aos 10 anos de idade, conheceu o pai, episódio sobre o qual já tratou em seu livro de memórias, “El Pez en el Agua”.
