E Perón quase teve as Malvinas

Em 1974, três semanas antes de morrer, o general Juan Domingo Perón teria recebido uma proposta inusitada: os ingleses teriam sugerido uma administração compartilhada das ilhas Malvinas, localizadas a 500 km da Patagônia e disputada entre os dois países.

Perón, que costumava dizer: “Se colocamos um pé nas ilhas, não nos tiram mais”, não teria gostado da proposta. Para ele, assim como para tantos outros presidentes argentinos depois, era tudo ou nada. “As Malvinas São Nossas”, repete-se geração após geração de poderosos.

A revelação do plano britânico foi feita pelo ex-embaixador Carlos Ortiz de Rozas, que participou das rodas de discussão sobre o futuro das ilhas na época. Ele conta que, como Perón morreu pouco depois, a ideia se diluiu durante a gestão de sua viúva, Isabelita, e não voltou a ser proposta.

A menos de um mês do aniversário dos 3o anos da Guerra das Malvinas, na qual a Argentina foi derrotada, a ideia de que, se não tivesse optado pela ação armada, o país já poderia ter as ilhas de volta se reforça. Ao plano inglês da época de Perón se soma também o projeto de “lease-back” dos anos 70, formulado por um assessor de Thatcher, que previa que os ingleses alugassem a ilha e após um período de 50 ou 60 anos, os argentinos voltassem a ter soberania sobre elas.
