“Economist” deixa de publicar inflação do governo

A revista britânica “The Economist”, em seu número mais recente, anunciou que deixa de publicar os dados do governo argentino sobre a inflação. Em texto com inúmeras críticas à política econômica de Cristina Kirchner, ilustrado, inclusive, com uma charge da presidente vestida de bruxa diante de um caldeirão, a publicação conta porque resolve agora adotar o índice de inflação da PriceStats, uma consultoria que calcula dados de 19 países.

Desde 2007, o Indec (IBGE argentino) está sob intervenção federal, comandada pelo xerife Guillermo Moreno. Segundo os dados do instituto, a inflação no país é de apenas 9.7%, enquanto para consultorias privadas e economistas independentes varia de 25% até 30%.

A revista faz um histórico da relação traumática que os argentinos têm com o aumento dos preços, lembrando os períodos de hiper-inflação, como o que ocorreu durante a presidência de Raul Alfonsín, nos anos 80. Isso estaria por trás das razões pelas quais o governo se preocupa tanto com o impacto político do aumento de preços.

E conclui com uma triste ironia: “A Argentina criou um labirinto estatístico que poderia ter sido sonhado por Jorge Luis Borges, o maior escritor do país. Essa história não parece ter um final feliz.”
