Um grupo de senhores de cabelos brancos, aspecto sério e pose de heróis mira a câmera. Trinta anos depois de terem ajudado o governo militar argentino a trazer armas de forma oculta ao país, encaram a sociedade como quem pede reconhecimento e louvor.

A história parece coisa de cinema, mas é real. Em plena Guerra das Malvinas, entre abril e junho de 1982, um grupo de pilotos e tripulação da Aerolíneas Argentinas viajou a Trípoli, capital da Líbia, para carregar aviões comerciais de armas e mísseis vendidos por nada menos que o ditador Muammar Kaddafi.

Com o conflito em curso, a Argentina estava impedida de comprar armas de parceiros ocidentais. Os militares no poder, então, não fizeram por menos, e ordenaram essa arriscada e altamente irregular operação, em que aviões de linha seriam abarrotados de armas de guerra e correriam mil riscos para realizar o trajeto desde a Líbia até o Atlântico Sul.

Foram ao todo quatro viagens, desviando de radares e burlando sistemas de vigilância internacionais. Fizeram escalas em Recife, no Brasil. Até que as armas desembarcassem sãs e salvas na base aérea de Palomar.

Hoje, os remanescentes da Operação Aerolíneas rompem o silêncio e vêm à público apresentar-se como veteranos de guerra. Num país em que o tema Malvinas é tão sensível, há quem os aplauda. Mas também quem os veja como peças úteis de uma ditadura desesperada que, com medo de perder o poder, ordenou uma guerra sangrenta na qual o exército argentino tinha poucas chances.

Burlar a lei e pedir armas de forma clandestina a um dos mais brutais ditadores do planeta parecia pouco para os militares argentinos. Entregá-las nas mãos de um grupo de meninos para que morressem numa batalha desigual é um crime ainda não totalmente explicado.
